Vulcan Park- Birmingham, AL

When we moved to the mountain side of Birmingham, one of the first things I noticed was the Vulcan statue. I mean, its hard not to miss, its huge! I really wanted to visit the statue but when I learned that there is actually a lookout from the top, well it was on!

I have to admit, I feel a little bad for the little ones on this day. They were quiet under dressed for our visit and were a little crabby about it. The sun tricked me and I thought it was warmer but once you get nearly 180 ft up in the sky, it can be a bit chilly!

*About the Vulcan- Vulcan was the Roman god of Forge.
The statue is made of all cast iron and was placed on top of red mountain as a symbol of the imaginative spirit of a forging city.

3/52

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2013."

Nona- A curious glance at big brother. She climbs the stairs after him.
Dash- So eager to get to the top of the steps. Calling him back, he stops to let us catch up or maybe just amuse himself with throwing a few acorns!

Dashiel's reward today was a trip to see the Vulcan. This is one of the trails in the park. I promise to update tomorrow with more photos etc!

2/52 (Catch UP!)

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013."

Dash-  Cuddled up in his blanket and sipping camomile tea, he sat outside on the patio for nearly an hour.
Nona- A little one on one time. We laid on the floor, by the big window and let the sunshine warm our faces.

1/52

With the new year bringing the little ones and I Strep throat and colds, I am especially happy to be well again and finally able to participate in 52! A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013. This little photo challenge came to me via The Che' and Fidel blog. Such an enchanting family...you really should check them out.
I promise to do a catch up week sometime in the future but as for now, this week brings Nona and Dashiel SNOW! We dont get very much snow here in Alabama, but when it does come, you can bet, we are all outside! We had a blast!
